Oil Drum Fire Pit
During the summer of 2020, everyone was hanging out in backyards and around fire pits.
The costs of fire pits were astronomical, and I’m not one for social media trends.
But still we needed a pit.
Copped an oil drum off Facebook Marketplace for 20 bucks. Gotta love Facebook Marketplace.
Where we're starting. Didn't have a plan at this point. Didn't really have a plan at any point of this project.
This was my first time wielding an angle grinder! I stripped the paint off the top of the drum and sketched out a design.
The idea: a fire pit with a grill section, a flat top section, and the ability to add more wood while things are cooking.
Using an angle grinder and a dremel, I cut out the pattern.
I then removed the top and cut diagonal slices down the sides of the drum.
The idea here was based on a trick we used to do with disposable plastic cups to turn them into a flower. Except with thick and sharp metal. What could go wrong?
I folded each section back and underneath the bottom of the oil drum.
I then overlapped each section and fastened them together, and smoothed the edges with the angle grinder.
Flipping the drum back over reveals a fire pit!
